Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How often should I rotate my tires?
We recommend rotating your tires every other oil change, or every 6000 miles. Not rotating them as suggested can result in premature or uneven tire wear.
Q. Is it really necessary to replace my timing belt at the recommended interval?
ABSOLUTELY! Failure to replace the timing belt in some cars can result in irreversible engine damage. The cost of repairing or often times replacing an engine with timing belt damage is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement.
What does it mean if my "check engine" or "service engine soon" light comes on?
Your car’s engine performance and emissions are controlled by several sensors and computerized components. When one of these fails, thats when the “check engine” light is illuminated. Although it can be a small problem and your car may still run fine, it is very important to have the issue investigated to prevent possible long-term damage.
Q. What should I do if my car starts to overheat?
As soon as you can safely pull off the road and shut the car off, do so! This is very serious, if your car stays overheated for too long the engine can be damaged. Do not attempt to check the fluids at this time, the hot fluid can cause severe burns. The best thing to do is have your car towed to Accountable Auto Care.
Q. When should I get my oil changed?
Follow the recommendations of your vehicle’s owner’s manual, the suggestions can range from every 3,000-10,000 miles.
Q. Why is engine oil milky brown?
This is a very serious condition and should be check by a professional technician immediately. Milky brown engine oil is an indication of coolant in the oil. This can be caused by a blown head gasket, a failed transmission cooler, or a cracked casing. We strongly recommend having your car towed to Accountable Auto Care.
Q. How do I make sure my car battery has a good electrical connection?
Battery cables should be cleaned and visually inspected periodically, Accountable Auto Care does a courtesy visual inspection at each service.
Q. Should I consider using synthetic motor oil in my vehicle?
Firstly, you should always follow the recommendations in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. However, synthetic motor oils can be a good choice for high output, turbocharged or supercharged engines. Vehicles used for towing (especially during hot weather), and cars that are driven in extreme temperatures should also use synthetic motor oils. Synthetic oils are more expensive than mineral-based oils, but they can improve fuel economy and last longer than traditional oils.
Q. When should I replace my car's fuel filter?
To guarantee the best performance and avoid any unseen problems, you should replace your car’s fuel filter approximately every 30,000 miles, unless your vehicle’s manufacturer suggests differently.
Q. When should I change my spark plugs?
Proper working spark plugs ensure maximum fuel economy and optimum engine performance and should be replaced every 30 months or 30,000 miles. For a longer performing spark plug, you can replace them with 100,000-mile platinum tipped spark plugs.
Q. I need to replace a burned out fuse, what should I do?
Fuses can be easily replaced, but if they’re are continually “blowing” you should have the circuit checked by one of our technician for defects. Always replace blown fuses with one of the same amperage, which is conveniently printed on the top of the fuse.
